OUR MASCOT
Meet Bowie

Bowie is our mascot. He is a bowerbird: complex, specific, and genuinely incredible. We did not pick him for the feathers.
He only wants the blue
Somewhere in eastern Australia, a satin bowerbird is working his way across the forest floor, turning down almost everything on it. Leaves, seeds, the ordinary beige of the bush. Not interesting.
He is looking for blue. Blue feathers, blue berries, blue flowers, and these days blue plastic.

It looks like fussiness. It is a filter. Out of everything available to him, he carries home only the pieces worth having
That is the blue dot in our logo.
And then he builds somethingTell The
Here is the part that surprises people. What he makes with all that blue is not a nest.
Nothing lives in it. The female builds the nest herself, somewhere else entirely. The bower is a structure made of gathered things, arranged, and built for no other purpose than to be looked at.
What a bowerbird like Bowie builds is not a nest. Nothing lives in it.

A bowerbird can take up to seven years to come into his adult plumage.

He does not finish a bower and walk away. Some are 30 years old.

Which is roughly how we work
A permission on its own is a bottle cap. It tells you something, but not much.
Gathid gathers identities and the access they hold from the systems you connect, and models how all of it relates: people, accounts, roles, permissions. Authority, meaning who can actually do what, rarely sits in any one system's list. It shows up in the relationships between them.

Gather the right pieces. Arrange them so the shape means something.
Then the part most people have backwards. One blue bottle cap tells you nothing at all. Standing in front of the finished bower, you can see exactly why that one sits where it does, and what it would mean if it moved. It is the whole that makes the fine detail readable, never the other way around.

That is the job, and a bird in Queensland has been doing it longer than we have.
You will see Bowie around
Bowie turns up across our product and our site, usually where something needs explaining.
The real thing

A satin bowerbird, with blue-black feathers, and violet eyes.

The bower. Gathered, arranged, maintained. Not a nest.
